‘There are no winners in a trade war’
Beijing has urged the United States to reverse unilateral tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump after the Supreme Court struck down many of his measures. China’s Ministry of Commerce said it was conducting a “comprehensive assessment” of the impact of the ruling and called on Washington to lift the tariffs.
“China urges the United States to cancel unilateral tariff measures against its trading partners,” the ministry said in a statement.
There are no winners in a trade war, and protectionism gets you nowhere.” The new 15% global tariffs take effect tomorrow and are expected to last 150 days, with exemptions for some products. China’s Foreign Ministry also noted that it is paying “close attention” to potential US moves to keep tariffs increased. “The United States is currently planning alternative measures, such as trade investigations, in order to maintain tariff increases on trading partners. China will continue to pay close attention to this aspect and resolutely safeguard its interests,” the ministry said.
