Kim, 'our nuclear arsenal must surpass that of the rest of the world'

Three-day plenary meeting of the Workers’ Party of Korea

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has urged a commitment to further enhance his country’s nuclear resources “with the aim of surpassing the rest of the world”. This was reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) cited by Yonhap.

The Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) convened the three-day second plenary meeting of its ninth central committee on Saturday, chaired by leader Kim, to assess the country’s political progress in the first half of the year and review the agenda set at a major party congress held in February. The meeting reiterated North Korea’s commitment to expanding its nuclear forces, describing them as the nation’s “core of military sovereignty” and “the linchpin of implementing the strategy of deterrence or war.”

The report states that the plenary session unanimously decided that “fully exercising the position of a nuclear-weapon state is the most correct and only way to actively and confidently address the unpredictable international military and political situation, which is becoming complicated in multiple respects.”
