Trump in Beijing: 'Fantastic trade agreements concluded with Xi'

The second day of meetings in Zhongnanhai, the Chinese White House

US President Donald Trump said he had made “fantastic trade deals” with Xi Jinping. Trump’s overtures towards Xi Jinping, who he described as a “great leader” and a “friend”, have so far been welcomed with more moderate tones by the Chinese leader. But the US leader said “a lot of good” had come out of the visit. “We have made some fantastic trade deals, great for both countries,” he said, as Xi walked him through Zhongnanhai Gardens.

During the second round of talks between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, the delegations present will be much smaller than the numerous ones yesterday.

This could mean a more intensive session, as CNN explains. On the US side, Trump will be joined by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, along with US Ambassador to China David Perdue.

Xi will be joined by his chief of staff Cai Qi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, Vice Premier He Lifeng (a key trade envoy), as well as Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ma Zhaoxu and Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng.
